The 2016/17 season saw success for three of our juniors teams. Our under 9 CFC, under 12 CFC and under 15 Colliers (as of 2016/17) all going the distance and winning their respective leagues. Our under 15 CFC fought hard and were unlucky to lose their Divisional Cup Final in a tightly contested one goal game.

However, the season could also be seen as a success off the field. Thanks to our Nike Partner Club coaching bursary, we were able to put more of our volunteers through their FA Level 1 qualification. We have also secured another year with Nike, providing more funding for further coaching qualifications to new and existing volunteers.

We would like to thank the coaches who have come to the end of their coaching journeys at Ashington CFC Juniors and to welcome the many new faces on board.

Saturday 16th September

The winning start continued for our under 14s Eagles, making it 3 wins out of 3. A 5-0 victory saw Lyall score his third consecutive hat-trick, with Liam and Adam also on target as well. Well done on Lyall for earning man of the match.

Ashington CFC U16s Saturday team continue to go from strength to strength.  On the 16th September they travelled to Whickham where they came out 6-0 victors with goals from Danny A (2), Jamie, Kurt, Dom and Tom.  Danny A was named man of the match in this game.

Week Beginning 18th September

Last week our under 16 Saturday continued their unbeaten run when they faced Tynemouth United Blues at Hirst Welfare.  Having fallen behind to the first goal they have conceded this season they bounced back to win the contest 7-1.  Goals came from Jamie (3), Tom (2), Danny A and Luke.  Man of the match for this one was Jamie.  The side received some bad news this week however when striker Brad was ruled out for some time with a knee injury.  The club wish Brad all the best for a speedy recovery.

Our under 11 CFC fought hard for their win on Sunday, with both teams pressing up the pitch which created very little space in the middle for Ashington to play their football. Excellent decision making by the goalkeeper and defenders meant they finished the match with no goals conceded, the midfield work hard to create space with very little room and the forwards found loads of space timing their runs to run down on goal. A solid, hard working performance by the team with excellent decision making by the players to change their approach. Well done to the goal scorers Brandon (2), Kieran and Nathan and Arran who was awarded man of the match.

Our under 12 CFC earned their first victory of the season, after a tough opening to life in a higher league. In a tightly contested, end-to-end game Ashington fought hard for the win – playing some great football and working hard for each other to win back possession. It looked like it wasn’t going to be their day hitting the woodwork not once, but five times! However a trio of second half goals from Alex (2) and Bruce seen the final score 3-0. Well done to Josh on man of the match after a fantastic performance at the back.

Thanks for taking the time to read some of the reports sent in by our coaches from the opening week of the season!

Our new under 16s Saturday team have made a really good start to life at Ashington CFC Juniors, scoring 21 goals without reply in their first two games. Their first game in the Gateshead Apollo League saw them end up 13-0 winners. Goals from Dom (3) Danny A (2) Brad (2) Tom (2) Joseph, Matty, Liam and Harry completed the emphatic score line with Danny A being named man of the match. Their second game saw them achieve an 8-0 victory with goals coming from Danny A (3) Dom (2) Tom (2) and Kurt. A brilliant start that we hope the lads can maintain in the coming weeks!

Well done to our under 14s Saturday team ‘Eagles’ who made a blistering start to the season, winning their first game 10-0 with goals coming from Lyall (3) Luke (2) James (2) Liam (1) Ruben (1) and Ryan (1). Well done to man of the match Lyall! Next came a midweek cup game, another cracking victory with a 7-1 score line sending them through to the next round of the NEYDL League Cup – goals from Lyall (3) Liam (3) and Luke (1). Well done to man of the match Luke!

Next came Ashington CFC Juniors’ under 11s who started the season “of the beautiful game” with a strong away performance. The defence was strong, powerful and maintained a solid line giving few chances away to the opposition. There was a great battle in midfield, contested with power and skill, and the attack ran the line well with skill; turning defenders on a sixth pence and creating chances. Well done Hazza and William for their goals and to Hazza for also receiving man of the match.

Finally, a big well done to our under 9s on a great away performance where the man of the match award was given to two players – well done Rory and Finley!
